Living Art – Where Creativity, Nature & Craftsmanship Unite
At Ali Murray & Co., we celebrate the powerful connection between creativity, nature, and craftsmanship through three distinct collections: Living Art, Lasting Art, and Legacy Art.
Each piece is a one-of-a-kind statement—crafted from vintage and antique furniture, brought to life through upcycling, seasonal planting, and community collaboration. Committing to sustainability and storytelling, our work transforms forgotten objects into meaningful, living works of art designed to enrich any space—indoors or out.
We work closely with volunteers and older adults in the community, whose hands and hearts help shape each creation. This shared creative journey adds soul, warmth, and humanity to everything we make.
Explore our three unique collections:
- Living Art – botanical pieces that grow and evolve with the seasons
- Lasting Art – sculptural statements that combine function with storytelling
- Legacy Art – deeply personal tributes designed to honour life and memory
Living Art – Botanical pieces
Our Living Art collection transforms antique chairs into evolving botanical sculptures. Each piece is planted with seasonal flowers, bulbs, and seeds, creating a dynamic display that changes throughout the year.
Some bloom brightly; others rest before returning with fresh growth. These aren’t static pieces—they’re living, breathing artworks that bring beauty and calm into your space.
- Crafted from upcycled furniture
- Planted with care using seasonal varieties
- Designed to evolve with nature’s rhythms
You can refresh the planting yourself—or return it to us for a seasonal replanting at a reasonable cost.
Bring living beauty into your space.
Note: These pieces are designed for admiration, not for reclining.
Lasting Art – Sculptured Stories
Lasting Art blends storytelling and fine craftsmanship in sculptural, upcycled furniture. Each piece begins as a vintage chair and is transformed into a detailed artwork—from hand-painted panels and dioramas to embedded miniature worlds.
They’re bold, expressive, and made to endure—visually stunning pieces that start conversations and stand the test of time.
- One-of-a-kind commissions
- Most pieces are design-registered and certified as authentic
- Built with lasting materials and creative integrity

Legacy Art – Enduring Tributes
Legacy Art offers a meaningful way to leave something behind. Created for those approaching the later chapters of life, these bespoke pieces carry memories, values, and emotions into the future—serving as living tributes to a life well-lived.
Crafted with upcycled furniture, natural elements, and community collaboration, each Legacy piece is deeply personal and completely unique.
Some are living displays that change with the seasons. Others preserve a moment or memory in sculptural form. All are designed to offer comfort, connection, and continuity for future generations.
Leave a legacy that grows.
A Dedication to Jill Plews
This collection is dedicated to our first Living Legacy client, Jill Plews—a gifted artist and gardener whose spirit lives on through the first Legacy Art chair. Crafted from a cherished garden seat, Jill’s piece has become a powerful symbol of memory, joy, and lasting love.
Let your story live on.

Dedication to Jill Plews

Ali asked me to write a few words about my mum, but first I wanted to write a few words about Ali. Ali came in to our lives just at the right time, to make my mums garden wonderful for her last summer, she understands plants and most importantly people. Ali understood what my mum wanted to be done but also took that brief and went with it, creating new little moments of joy around the garden. Whilst out in our garden Ali spotted a wooden chair that neither my mum nor I could quite get rid of, despite being well past functioning, it had a beauty in the way the garden was growing around it. My mum had told Ali that she knew she wouldn’t see another winter and this I understand was the sparks of the inspiration for the living legacy. Ali wanted to create something that would grow through to the next season for us children, knowing that my mum would not be here to enjoy it with us, but would be a natural legacy to give hope with spring and the new life that comes.
Over the last year, I wasn’t always around much when Ali was here with her dedicated team, but I could see the joy that it brought my mum when I got home from work and she told me of the next bit of the garden that Ali and team had been working on.
I am forever grateful to Ali and the team for giving my mum one last summer in her garden, a garden which she has nurtured for over 40 years, but ill health has meant she has been unable to do it herself for several years. I’m not particularly green fingered, I’m probably more like my dad was, a bit happier hacking something back rather than the delicacy and attention to detail my mum had with plants. She was also very specific, she knew where many of the plants in the garden had come from, ‘old friends’ she’d gathered over the years, crocuses from my grans garden, a shrub from my nana’s and lots of little clippings along the way, now established plants in the garden.
Mum was a keen artist, painting daily, almost until the day she died. She described her paintings as an emotional reaction to the landscape and the sky in all its variety, taking inspiration from its colour, space and energy and in particular the horizon where the land apparently meets the sky. Mum’s painting are figurative and semi abstract, but still the inspiration was the world around her. The same was for mum’s ceramics, working in clay of equal importance and created balance. She would say Working in 3 dimensions was a good reaction to the flatness of painting creating large and small pots as well as faces, bodies and abstract pieces. Many of mum’s paintings are of the garden over the years, her studio sits in the middle of our garden, secluded from the world but in the centre of ours.
We are left with many many happy memories of a cherished childhood and upbringing in a wonderful garden, the living legacy chair will continue to be a source of joy, remembering my mum, her artistic quirkiness and her smile.
